FAACT was a winner in the Cross Boundary & Collaboration category.

Qlarion Wins NASCIO State IT AwardThis prestigious award recognizes projects that use data and innovation to address critical business problems, more easily connect citizens to their government, and create new opportunities that improve the lives of citizens.

“FAACT’s success demonstrates Virginia’s leadership in building innovative information technology and data-driven solutions to optimize the citizen experience across the Commonwealth,” said Nelson P. Moe, Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. “We are proud of our data office and agency partners for their contributions and commitment to continued excellence.”

Introduced in 2019 through a collaboration between the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, Qlarion, Virginia’s Chief Data Officer and other partners, FAACT collects data from multiple sources to provide local governments with vast information to help them understand and take action against the drug epidemic in their communities.

“This is one of the most highly regarded awards in state government, and for FAACT to be recognized among the most innovative programs is truly remarkable,” said Jake Bittner, CEO of Qlarion. “With the advent of COVID-19, the FAACT platform is now being used to address and solve this new challenge. We hope that our work with Virginia can be used as a blueprint for preparedness in other states.”

The Commonwealth of Virginia also won in the category of Enterprise IT Management Initiatives.

“The FAACT platform, originally the opioid pilot project, proves the value of sharing data across agencies, localities, and community organizations in a way that facilitates responsive, data-driven, evidence-based decision-making,” said Carlos Rivero, Chief Data Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. “The lessons learned from transforming data into actionable intelligence in response to the opioid crisis has helped us successfully respond to the pandemic mapping the path to a safe and successful recovery for the Commonwealth. We look forward to expanding these efforts to benefit more communities and save more lives.”

“The Dept. of Criminal Justice Services began the FAACT project to create an avenue for sharing, analysis, and dissemination of data between disparate systems working in the trenches of the opioid crisis in Virginia,” said Shannon Dion, Director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services. “Thanks to the funding we have received from the State Opioid Response grant managed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, there have been many successes from the FAACT project in the active regions. We are especially proud that the platform was available to be utilized as a means for the Commonwealth to collect and analyze data that assisted in coordinating an appropriate response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
