Virginia Treasury and Qlarion win for Innovation at VCU Excellence in Virginia Government Awards Ceremony

RESTON, VA – April 11 – Qlarion, a data analytics firm that specializes in government innovation, today announced that the company and its client, the Virginia Department of the Treasury, has been awarded an Excellence in Virginia Government Award, under the category of Innovation, for their work in developing a data analytics system.

The awards, a signature program of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, honor individuals and organizations who have made noteworthy contributions to the practice of government and the betterment of the state.

Qlarion helped the Treasury realize its vision of becoming a data-driven organization by developing and implementing a data analytics system which gathered information from multiple sources, analyzed trends, and used the data for strategic decision making. For instance, departments within the Treasury can now identify the percentage of unclaimed property claims paid within 60 days, the amount of debt issued by program or year, and the amount of cash available, types of investments, and the rate of return on investments.

“We worked with the Treasury to help them make better business decisions, reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and increase citizen engagement,” said Jake Bittner, CEO, Qlarion. “The Treasury now uses analytics to make continuous improvements to its operations, which benefit the entire state of Virginia. This award is greatly appreciated, and it shines a light on the important role that analytics has on the state’s operations.”

Recipients were honored at a luncheon April 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Richmond Marriott, 500 E. Broad St.
